LE8 round 3: eh vs TnT
It's time to write this report, and I guess grobi has been waiting impatiently to hear how good he was. I hope I still can recall the important stuff from this match
This match was played just a few days before Christmas, and my team were very short on players. Two days before it looked like it would be me, Philstar and guom. This would be guom's first TMO match since LE5. But I still thought we had a chance, with Philstar in top form and guom being as consistent as he is on coast. Then later that day Philstar reports that he is coming down with the flu and we are in serious trouble. Luckily I'm able to get in touch with Dennis and Dengel a few hours before the match. Dennis needs to reinstall the game and Dengel the same. Dengel isn't able to get it to work before about an hour before the match and Dennis didn't play since the end of LE7. I was not that trained either, because of the GC4 final the day before.
We started on rally with me, Dengel and Dennis against grobi, Bob68 and Maxou. It started well for me, and I had the lead close to the end when I made a mistake. Maxou won the round and TnT took the point. The next round was something similar, with a TnT in front and me in second place. Then I finally started winning some rounds, but TnT were just behind me. Dennis and Dengel did allright with little trainined, but they crashed a little much and were about a second slower than they needed to be. The TnT drivers shifted on being my biggest competition, and even grobi with his kb won a round. 7-0 to TnT.
After this Dennis decided he was so out of shape that he didn't see the point of driving anymore. I don't think he was that bad really, but he was one of three drivers at about the same level that night, so both Dengel and guom could drive the two other maps. We go ahead on desert and I'm driving really well, expect that in the three of the first four rounds I get landing bugs and loses 1-2 seconds. I'm really getting pissed over this, because I was below my pb on all those rounds. Then I finally escape the bug and I set a pb, with a CP time before the bug which was 0.5 seconds slower than in the earlier rounds. Meanwhile, grobi is on fire, driving consistent times at a high level. He is winning round after round, and he was the decisive factor on this map. Both guom and Dengel did quite well from what could be expected. It was up to me to get that first place, something I wasn't able to often enough. Therefore most points went to TnT and they took the map 7-2.
On snow we played a very technical map. The clue here was not to crash, something I did a little much early on. Maxou (I think) started well in the first round, and then grobi won a couple of rounds. But thanks to guom (who won a round when grobi crashed in the last corner) and Dengel both teams took point, and the match leveled at 3-3 when after I won a round. Now I started driving consistent and good times for some reason (and here I thought I hated the map ^^), and I won all but one of the last rounds. I made a 1.01.1x with a crash which annoyed me a little. But for some reason when I started driving well, my team mates drove worse, or maybe it was TnT who started to drive more consistently. They won point after point and finally the map 7-3 and the match 3-0.
This was not a good way to end the year for us, but I'm confident we'll be back to kick some ass now in 2007!
Also GG to TnT! They really drove very well, and should not be underestimated by anyone.
